Family class
The intent of the family immigration program is to reunite Canadian citizens and permanent residents with close family members.
If you are a Canadian citizen or permanent resident of Canada, you may sponsor a spouse, common-law partner, common-law partner, dependent child (including an adopted child) or another eligible relative (such as a parent or grandfather) to become a permanent resident of Canada.

The Citizenship and Immigration Canada (CIC) program refers to immigrants who are eligible to use this family sponsorship or sponsorship process for a family class. If you become a permanent resident you can live, study and work in Canada. For more information if you are a permanent resident of Canada, see the related links section at the bottom of this page. On your arrival in Canada as a permanent resident, you must make every reasonable effort to meet your basic needs and the needs of your family. If you are sponsoring a relative to come to Canada as a permanent resident, you are responsible for financially supporting your relative upon their arrival. As a sponsor, you must ensure that your spouse or relative does not need to request financial assistance from the government. The process of sponsoring your family begins when you, as a citizen or permanent resident of Canada, apply for sponsorship. There are two different processes for sponsoring your family. One process is used to care for your spouse, marital partner, common-law partner, and / or dependent children. Another process is used to take care of other eligible relatives.
